1. Patch Test
We highly recommend performing a patch test for clients using this system for the first time. Follow these steps to ensure there are no allergic reactions to the products:
- Prepare the patch test materials. You’ll need a small amount of Step 1, 2, & 3 and any adhesive or balm you plan to use during the lash lift treatment.
Pro tip:Press the cream inside the sachet to the bottom, then poke a tiny hole using sharp tweezers. Dispense a small amount of cream for the patch test. You can seal the hole with tape, and the cream will remain usable for up to a month if properly sealed. - Clean a small area of the client’s skin, either behind the ear or on the inner arm, with water.
- Using a cotton bud, apply a small amount of each product to different spots.
- Wait for a reaction: Allow the patch test to sit for 24-48 hours. During this time, the client should monitor the area for any redness, itching, swelling, or irritation.
Evaluate the Results:If there’s no adverse reaction after the testing period, it’s generally safe to proceed with the lash lift. If there is any irritation, it’s best to avoid using the product.
2. Consultation
Set aside 5-10 minutes for a client consultation. Take a photo of their face from the front, 45-degree angle, and side profile. Examine their lash length, direction of growth, and eye shape. Ask the client whether they prefer a dramatic, maximally lifted look or a more natural, subtle finish.
Lash Length:This helps determine the shield size to use. All Alba lifting shields come in various sizes, ensuring you can always find the best fit for your client's lashes.
Pro tip:For a more dramatic effect, opt for a size smaller than usual. If your client prefers a natural result, size up.
Eye Shape:For clients with deep-set eyes, hooded eyes, or monolids with excess fat, opt for a shield one size larger than usual. A tight curl may cause the lash tips to touch the eyelid, leading to discomfort. The same applies for clients with extra-long lashes.
Direction of Growth:If the client’s lashes naturally grow downward or appear especially straight, consider adding 1-2 extra minutes to the processing time for both Step 1 and Step 2.
3. Preparation
- Secure the lower lashes with eye pads.
2. Gently clean the eye area and natural lashes with lash shampoo, cleanser, or primer to remove makeup, dust, oil, etc.
3. If your client has excess skin or fat on the eyelid, use sensitive tape to slightly lift it up, making it easier to see the lash roots and place thesilicone shield or rod.
4. Place the rod on the eyelid and check if the chosen rod is the correct size for the lash length.
5. If you’re certain about the size, apply a small amount of lifting glue or glue balm to the back of the shield. (If using AlbaUniversal ShieldsorExtreme Shields, you can skip this step, as the shield is already extra sticky and flexible, adhering well to the eyelid.) Then, place the rod as close to the lash line as possible, ensuring no lashes are caught underneath the rod.
6. Using abrushor applicator of your choice, apply a small amount ofAlba Easylift Glue Balmor Flexi Lash Lift Adhesiveto the rod/shield. Then, begin attaching the lashes to the shield, working in small sections to ensure even placement so that the lashes resemble a barcode from root to tip. Use only the necessary amount of glue or balm, as using too much can act as a barrier and reduce the effectiveness of the Step 1 and Step 2 creams.
Pro tip:If the client has fine or medium-thickness lashes, you can skip this step and go straight to applying the LIFT cream. The LIFT cream’s thick, creamy texture can hold the lashes without the need for lifting glue or balm.
4. Step 1 – LIFT Cream
The Alba Step 1 LIFT Cream softens the keratin structure of the lashes, allowing them to be reshaped into a lifted, curled position. It has a pleasant scent and a distinctive colour to avoid confusion with the Step 2 and 3 solutions.
1. Apply a generous amount of Alba Step 1 LIFT Cream, starting from the roots and working upwards towards the tips. Avoid applying it to the top 10-20% of the lash tips to prevent over-processing.
Pro tip: Since our Step 1 cream has a thick texture, we highly recommend using either cling wrapor a lash lifting ribbon(also known as a 'compensator') to ensure that all lashes are fully covered by the solution.
2. Leave the solution on for the duration specified in the time guide below:
Processing time for Alba Step 1 LIFT Cream:
- Fine or damaged lashes: 5–7 minutes
- Medium lashes: 8–12 minutes
- Strong lashes: 13–15 minutes
If using glue balm, leave it on for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Pro Tip:When the time is up, use your tweezers to bend a single lash backwards and check if it is fully softened. Repeat 2-3 times with other lashes. If they are not ready, wait for another 1-2 minutes.
3. Once done, thoroughly wipe off the cream using a dry applicator.
4. Using an applicator of your choice, brush up each lash so each hair is straight like a barcode. All lashes should be properly separated with even gaps, without crisscrossing. Make sure they are all securely attached to the rod. Take your time here, as the final result will reflect this placement.
Pro tip:Handle the softened lashes gently to avoid damage. Be sure to avoid flipping the waterline, as this could result in an underwhelming or asymmetrical lift.
5. Step 2 – FIX Cream
Once the lashes have been softened with Step 1 cream, applying Step 2 cream will neutralise the hair and reform the disulfide bonds to lock in the new shape.
1. Apply Step 2 FIX Cream to the lashes without disrupting their placement. Ensure thorough coverage, avoiding the top 10-20% of the lash tips.
2. Use silicone ribbons to cover the roots and press down to prevent any baby lashes from lifting up. No wrap is needed for Step 2.
Processing time for Alba Step 2 FIX Cream:
- Fine or damaged lashes: 4–5 minutes
- Medium lashes:6minutes
- Coarse lashes: 7–9 minutes
If using glue balm, leave it on for an additional 1 minute.
When the time is up, thoroughly remove the Step 2 cream.
6. Tinting (Optional)
If tinting is required, do it at this step. Follow the time guidelines for each brand. Since the lashes have been chemically treated, the processing time for tint is shorter than usual. Make sure to remove the tint completely when done.
7. Step 3 – NOURISH
Alba Step 3 NOURISH Serum hydrates and conditions lashes and brows, replenishing moisture and strengthening the lashes and brows post-treatment. It’s enriched with biotin, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and panthenol.
Apply a generous amount of serum to the lashes, leave it on for 5 minutes, and then wipe off using dry cotton.
Pro tip:For better penetration and deeper repair, use cling wrap and cover the eyes.
8. Wipe & Clean
Carefully peel off silicone shield and thoroughly wipe off all products. Give the eye area a lash bath if required.
9. Fix & Finish
Formulated with nourishing ingredients like aloe vera extract, secures lifted lashes in place while hydrating them to prevent dryness post-treatment.
Apply Fix & Finish applicator to the lash roots, then style the lashes into the desired position.
Now you're done! Check outthese beautiful before & after results.
10. Lash Lift Aftercare
Lash lift aftercare is essential to ensure the longevity of the lift and to maintain healthy, lifted lashes. Be sure to advise your clients of the following aftercare tips:
Avoid Water and Moisture for 24 Hours:
- After a lash lift, the lashes are still setting into their new shape. Avoid water, steam, sweat, or any moisture for the first 24 hours.
- Avoid washing your face with water or using makeup removers around the eye area.
No Eye Makeup or Mascara:
- Avoid applying mascara, especially waterproof formulas, for the first 24 hours.
- Steer clear of heavy eye makeup like eyeliner or eyeshadow during this period to avoid disrupting the lift process.
Be Gentle with Your Lashes:
- Avoid rubbing or tugging at your lashes, as this can affect the longevity of the lift.
- Sleep on your back, if possible, to prevent pressing your lashes against your pillow.
Avoid Heat and Steam:
- Stay away from saunas, hot tubs, or any intense heat, as this can weaken the curl of the lash lift.
Avoid Oil-Based Products:
- Oil-based makeup removers or creams can weaken the lifting effect, so use only water-based or oil-free products around your eyes.
Comb Your Lashes:
- Use a clean spoolie brush to gently comb through your lashes daily to keep them looking neat and separated.
Keep Lashes Healthy with Home Care Products:
- To keep your lashes hydrated and beautiful for longer, use lash serums daily (such asAlba Fix & Finishand Alba Lash Growth Serum) after the initial 24 hours have passed.
Schedule Next Appointment:
- A lash lift typically lasts 6-8 weeks, depending on the lash cycle. It’s important to schedule next appointments as needed to keep the lift looking beautiful.
