I'm a dentist, I recommend both this and flossing. This will clean the gums really well, but where the teeth actually touch, the water won't reach so you need the mechanical action of string floss to clean that.

I got this back in January I think for 14ish. Been using it everyday. Had to start on medium setting and still made my tongue bleed once. Recently switched to high though problem free. There's some getting use to the ergonomics when you first start using it. Don't be surprised if you end up spraying the ceiling, the mirror, and walls.

A recent dental hygienist told me these are to be used WITH flossing, not instead of flossing. That felt crazy pants to me. Are you all using it to replace string flossing like I would?

I went on a trip and needed a portable one.

Is this a good water flosser for teens with braces? My kid doesn't floss because it is really difficult with the braces on. Which one would you guys recommend if not this one?

It's good to keep in mind that "Waterpik" style flossers are not a substitute for traditional flossing.
While true it would be better than nothing, a lot of dentists only recommend them to be used *in-conjunction* with traditional flossing or if there is an obstruction such as braces.
